Mosque in Ayodhya

It is a matter of regret to read about the inordinate delay in the construction of the mosque in Ayodhya, the construction of which was ordered by the Supreme Court. While we see a remarkable spurt in the construction of the temple of the majority faith, the delay is compounded by the bureaucratic hurdles affecting the construction of the mosque. The delay is a blatant example of the widening disparity in the way communities are treated.

The report only reflects the attitude of a system which is not shy to display its non-secular qualities and arrogance. Stopping the construction of the mosque is condemnable, especially when the country talks so much about equality and fraternity in the international arena.

Regrettably, the authorities are only rubbing salt on the wound by obstructing. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by the arrangements at the Center as well as in the State to take the Ram Mandir project forward should have been extended to the construction of the mosque.

‘Lit for Life’ 2023

It was heartening to see The Hindu ‘Lit for Life’ literary festival back in its physical form after a pandemic-induced hiatus. The panel discussions on myriad topics of contemporary relevance were a treat for many avid readers of the daily and senior citizens like me.

The Hindu deserves praise for its disruptive intervention to rekindle the reading habit among Gen Z.

Kudos to The Hindu for bringing many of us under the umbrella of ‘Lit for Life’. We were engaged intellectually. I hope that the authors will read our postcards with their messages.

TS Karthik,

Chennai

My holiday in Chennai came to an end by attending the second day of the Literature Festival. From the grounded Wasim Akram, who struck a chord with his candid talk, to a fresh reading of colonial history by master storyteller William Dalrymple, we were engaged, hour after hour, through the day. Gitanjali Shree was a delight but it was Anita Ratnam who stood out as an excellent moderator. It was nice to see so many young faces in the audience.
