Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Thursday said it will take legal action against unscrupulous entities that use its logo unauthorizedly on social media platforms to attract customers.
LIC in its warning notice has also asked the public not to fall prey to offers from such entities which are misusing its logo on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and other social media.
“It has also come to our notice that some unscrupulous service providers and agents have created websites and apps by which they are trying to provide various services like ‘Insurance and Insurance Advisory Services’ to the clients by using our trademarks/service marks. that are deceptively similar Our mark and domain name are deceptively similar to our domain name and may even use our original literary and artistic works with a view to create confusion and deceit in the minds of the public and policy holders. use and reproduce also that they are in any way associated or authorized by us,” LIC said in a notice.
It also said that some software and app providers have created software and apps that enable others to gain access to LIC’s portal system or access LIC’s portal system through facilitating unauthorized access with the intention of data theft. Such software and app providers therefore hold themselves liable to be prosecuted under the law, it said.
“Subject to the facts and circumstances, customers, members of the public and policyholders are requested to notify us of such incorrect and/or unauthorized and/or infringing use of our service marks on social media or in any other form.” So that we can take appropriate action. To curb such infringing activities, both civil and criminal legal action should be taken.
The public at large is cautioned that all information relating to our products is available on our website and the Corporation is not responsible for any false or misleading information available on such digital and social media platforms of such unscrupulous persons.
