“Like scolding a thief”: Union minister on Arvind Kejriwal’s “honest” remark

Anurag Thakur takes a dig at Arvind Kejriwal over his “honest man” remark

New Delhi:

A day before he is to be questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Delhi Liquor Policy matter, Union Minister Anurag Thakur has hit back at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his remark that he is an “honest man”.

Kejriwal said though he will visit the CBI office tomorrow, it cannot be denied that if he – whose Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was founded on a promise to end corruption – is “corrupt”, then “Nobody in the world is honest”.

Kejriwal today said, “If Arvind Kejriwal is corrupt then no one is honest in this world… But if BJP has ordered CBI to arrest me, CBI will definitely follow their instructions.” The chief minister’s deputy Manish Sisodia was arrested last month on charges of alleged corruption in formulating the Delhi liquor policy, which was later withdrawn.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Mr. Thakur rejected Mr. Kejriwal’s claims misuse of cbi by the centre.

“AAP CM Arvind Kejriwal’s corrupt face stands exposed. He should tell CBI how much money he and his associates siphoned off from the liquor scam. Ironically, Kejriwal, who heads a cabinet of corrupt ministers, finds himself the only one in India saying honest man. perfect example of In reverse, the thief would bite the policeman,” Mr. Thakur said, referring to the popular Hindi phrase about a thief scolding a policeman.

BJP leaders have denied misuse of central agencies to target the opposition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the CBI on April 4 that no one should be spared in its fight against corruption. “The country is with you,” PM Modi told CBI officials in Delhi amid allegations from opposition parties, including the Congress. Center is misusing its agencies to harass BJP’s rivals.

The Delhi government has called a special session of the assembly on Monday to discuss the CBI summons to Kejriwal.

The CBI alleges that changes were made in the Delhi Liquor Policy at the behest of a lobby in return for a bribe of Rs 30 crore. Shri Sisodia also handled the Excise portfolio. The CBI has said it is focusing on the alleged influence of the “South lobby” of businessmen and politicians to sway the liquor policy in their favor using middlemen, businessmen and bureaucrats.
