There are too many bank holidays in 2022

This year, we see a lot of bank holidays across the country. While the number of gazetted holidays does not vary among states, bank holidays differ based on festivals or events in each different state. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has already presented its list of bank holidays for this year. Banks will remain closed for four consecutive days in the month of April alone. The RBI prepares a list of holidays on the basis of festivals and holidays in each state or region and issues a calendar at the beginning of each financial year.

Take a look at bank holidays in 2022. These are in addition to Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month when banks are closed.

January

January 1: Banks to remain closed for the New Year.

January 14: Banks remain closed for Makar Sankranti and Pongal.

26 January: Banks remain closed on the occasion of Republic Day.

february

February 5: Banks remain closed on account of Vasant Panchami.

march

March 1: Banks are closed on the occasion of Maha Shivratri

March 19: Banks remain closed for Holi.

april

April 10: Banks are closed due to Ram Navami celebrations.

April 14: Banks in the states are closed on account of Ambedkar Jayanti, Mahavir Jayanti, Baisakhi, Vaisakhi, Tamil New Year’s Day, Cheeraoba, Biju Mahotsav and Bohag Bihu.

April 15: Banks will remain closed for Good Friday, Bengali New Year’s Day, Himachal Day, Vishu, Bohag Bihu.

May

May 1: Banks to remain closed for May Day.

May 2: Banks will remain closed in many states for Maharishi Parshuram Jayanti.

May 3: Banks will remain closed for Eid-ul-Fitr.

May 16: Banks will remain closed on account of Buddha Purnima.

july

July 10: Banks will remain closed for Bakrid, Eid Al Adha.

august

August 9: Banks will remain closed on the occasion of Muharram.

August 12: Banks will remain closed for Raksha Bandhan.

August 15: Banks will remain closed on the national holiday of Independence Day.

August 19: Banks will remain closed on Janmashtami.

August 31: There will be a holiday in banks on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

september

September 25: Banks will remain closed on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya.

october

October 2: Banks to remain closed on Gandhi Jayanti

October 5: Banks will remain closed on the occasion of Dussehra.

October 9: There will be a holiday in banks for Eid-e-Milad.

October 24: Banks will remain closed on Diwali.

October 27: Banks will remain closed for Bhai Dwar.

november

November 8: Banks will remain closed in all states for Guru Nanak Jayanti.

december

December 25: Banks will be closed for Christmas.
