Live: Delhi MCD House proceedings to resume today; Standing Committee polls likely as AAP, BJP pushes for fresh polls

MCD House witnessed high drama, with 15 adjournments from Wednesday evening till Thursday morning, with both AAP and BJP councilors clashing, raising slogans, throwing plastic bottles and staying at the Civic Center – MCD Headquarters .

While AAP accused BJP councilors of stealing ballot boxes and disrupting the voting process, BJP said AAP was afraid of cross-voting and therefore did not conduct elections with ballot secrecy.

In a report submitted to AAP mayor Shelly Oberoi and MCD commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, the civic body’s secretary recommended holding fresh elections, citing a “badly damaged” election process. He sought time for the printing of the new set of ballot papers, saying that traditionally elections were held with a stock of 300 ballot papers.

Shortly after the House resumed on Thursday, Oberoi told councilors that the video footage of the midnight ruckus would be examined and those who damaged the House would have to pay.

Meanwhile, videos of the uproar in the House with AAP councilors joining the ruckus went viral on social media. A video shared by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) showed BJP corporator Rekha Gupta and other corporators throwing things kept on the dais. On the other hand, BJP leaders shared a video claiming that AAP corporator Devender Kumar slapped party corporator Pramod Gupta.

Notably, AAP convenor and chief minister Arvind Kejriwal could not attend the function at the AAP office on his party’s victory in the mayor and deputy mayor posts due to heavy police presence on DDU Marg, where it is located near ITO, due to protests. Barricading was done. Delhi BJP.

AAP’s spectacular performance in the Delhi mayoral election on Wednesday saw corporator Shelly Oberoi become mayor by defeating BJP’s Rekha Gupta by 34 votes in the much-awaited election. Also AAP’s Aale Mohammad Iqbal won the deputy mayor’s election by 31 votes.
