Live Updates: Russia invades Ukraine – Henry Club

As the war enters its third week, the destruction and death toll are on the rise. If you’re reading now, here are the latest Russia-Ukraine developments:

Evacuation of killed residents: A Russian military attack struck an evacuation intersection in a Kyiv suburb on Sunday, killing a family with two children and several other civilians who were trying to flee a Russian attack, according to the city’s mayor.

Ukrainian officials said two mortars or artillery shells hit a post in the suburb of Irpin, northwest of Kyiv, which has been the site of intense shelling by Russian forces in recent days.

Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushin said eight civilians had been killed across the district, and international media at the checkpoint reported that a stream of civilians had landed in a shell.

A furious Zelensky: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of planning a “deliberate killing” in shelling on the territory of Ukraine. Speaking in a Facebook video on Sunday, Zelensky said that “God will not forgive” on “Forgiveness Sunday”.

Zelensky said he did not hear from a colleague on Sunday.

“And I didn’t hear any world leader react today,” he said. “Not from any western politician. There has been no reaction to this announcement. Think about the impunity of the occupiers: they proclaim the atrocities that have been planned. Why?”

Nuclear Fear: French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine, according to a Kremlin readout of the call.

Macron later spoke with Zelensky as well, reiterating the “absolute need to avoid any attack on the integrity of Ukrainian civilian nuclear facilities”.

Russia intensifies its attack: Russia has fired a total of 600 missiles since the invasion of Ukraine began, a senior US defense official said, and Russia has delivered about 95% of its total combat power inside Ukraine.

The official said the US saw ongoing fighting in Kherson and Mykolaiv on Monday, and Russian forces were still trying to encircle Mariupol along with Kyiv, Khakhiv and Chernihiv.

Anti-War Demonstration: At least 4,640 people were detained in Russia on Sunday for participating in anti-war rallies across the country, according to Detention, an independent human rights watchdog group.

Protesters are violently beaten up by police in St Petersburg, Russia, videos posted on social media show. CNN has geolocated and verified the authenticity of the video taken on Sunday evening.

Withdraw business: Netflix said on Sunday that it would stop selling and making its streaming video service available in Russia for the time being. Major Hollywood studios have also postponed new film releases in the country. Earlier on Sunday, Tiktok and American Express also suspended service inside Russia.
