Lokayukta for proper checking of food quality in Anganwadis

Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta Justice P. Lakshmana Reddy has proposed the formation of a village level committee immediately to properly check and monitor the quality of food being served to children and pregnant women at Anganwadi centres.

A resident of Kanimeraka village of Bondapally mandal of Vizianagaram district, B. Following Yeraiya’s complaint, the organization had sought an inquiry into the allegations of supplying substandard quality eggs to children and pregnant women. However, the Project Director, District Women and Child Development Agency, Vizianagaram and Vizianagaram District Collector could not find any truth in the allegations as they could not be substantiated.

The Lokayukta, however, said that despite these reports from the two officials, it cannot be concluded that nothing went wrong, and the committees had two members of the families of children (aged between 0-3 and 3-6). k) and two members. The members of the families of pregnant women, lactating mothers will be constituted under the chairmanship of the village sarpanch to monitor the supply of eggs at the village level.

All project directors have been directed to take necessary steps for supply of eggs to Anganwadi centers in three phases, the first phase between 1st to 10th of every month with yellow stamps, the second phase between 11th to 20th green. With color stamps and third phase between 21st to 30/31st of the month with blue color stamps.

Anganwadi workers should ensure that the supplier weighs all the egg trays before delivery at the center and ensure that the egg weighs 50 grams. Egg tray weight should not be less than 1,500 grams (30 eggs per tray) excluding the weight of the tray.

While the complaint from Vizianagaram has been closed, any person complaining in future will have to include physical evidence to show deficiency in service/supply of material.
