Love Capsule: Everyone judged me for sharing the bed with my brother – Times of India

My brother and I have always shared a close bond. He was two years younger than me and he has been my best friend throughout. Because of his tall stature, he has always been my savior when I was a mentor. We share a beautiful bond, and we hardly parted until we both went to college. One can tell, we were quiet, happy-go-lucky brothers and sisters who fought hard. I tell him all my secrets and best wishes. After all he is my younger brother.

But our bond slowly started on the path of ruin, as one incident completely tarnished our image. We were shocked by those who spoke badly about how we were brothers and sisters. And in this way. One day, all my relatives had gathered in my maternal house on one occasion or another, which I can hardly remember now. My husband was on a business trip and I missed him a lot during that time. It was a time of joy and gaiety. As usual, my brother and I started cracking jokes and winning games together, as we always did at family gatherings, when we were kids. We were a team. Everyone was jealous of how connected we are and how strong we are as a team. So you can imagine how close we were to brother and sister.

However, that night, some relatives stayed at our house for the night. There were two beds and there were 6 of us in total. And so, we left the bed to the elders of the house and laid a mattress on the floor. My brother and I decided to share a mattress because no one else wanted to. And we were both very happy. We could spend the night talking about what was going on in our lives. And at that time, I didn’t talk to him for a long time about how my married life was going. We spent the whole night laughing and talking. My brother even told about the girl he was going out with!

However, the next day everyone was giving a very strange look to me and my brother. My mother-in-law was one of those people who stayed behind and looked at me with utter disinterest. She had a contemptuous look on her face and my mother then pulled me aside and started telling me how everyone was annoyed that I shared a bed with my brother when I was so older and married . I was confused but then it dawned on me how everyone was judging me and my brother for sharing just one bed. I felt disgusted with the idea and even wondered how everyone could think like that. When I came back to the main room, my mother-in-law was talking on the phone. She was talking to my husband! I got scared. Who knew that a night of harmless jokes and laughter with my own brother could turn into such a big problem!

My brother looked at me sadly. Obviously, he also got a word or two from my father. Things got so awkward between us, right then and there. People started saying, we were ‘very’ close as brothers and sisters and I felt disgusted. My brother and I didn’t talk to each other for a few weeks and things got even more awkward. And now, my brother and I no longer share the same bond.
