Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh on Tuesday attacked Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, asking whether “love” for the Muslim vote bank prevented him from paying tribute to former state CM Kalyan Singh, who died after a prolonged illness. died.

A Hindutva icon and an OBC Lodh caste leader, Kalyan Singh was the chief minister of the state when the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was demolished by ‘kar sevaks’ in 1992.

He died in a Lucknow hospital on Saturday after a prolonged illness, following which his body was briefly kept in Lucknow on Monday before the BJP leader’s last rites were performed at Bansi Ghat in Narora town of Bulandshahr.

Attacking Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Swatantra Dev Singh in a Hindi tweet, Yadav said Yadav could hardly come a kilometer from his residence to Mall Avenue in Lucknow to pay homage to Kalyan Singh.

Taking a jibe at Yadav, he asked, “Has the love of the Muslim vote bank stopped him from paying homage to the tallest leader of the backward class.”
