Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul said Rajat Patidar’s knock played a key role in LSG’s defeat in the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. On Wednesday, May 25, Patidar played an unbeaten innings of 112 runs in 54 balls with the help of 12 fours and seven sixes.

Batting first, Challengers scored 207 runs on the basis of Patidar’s innings. The target of 208 runs proved difficult to handle for Rahul & Co as they lost the match by 14 runs. Patidar also became the fifth batsman after Shane Watson, Murali Vijay, Virender Sehwag and Wriddhiman Saha to score a century in an IPL knockout match.

Bangalore-born Rahul was also of the opinion that LSG fielded themselves with some poor fielding.

“It is quite clear why we could not win the game. We put ourselves on the field. The difference between the teams was Patidar’s knock. When a player from above plays a good innings, the team wins,” Rahul said after the match.

Rahul praises Mohsin

Despite the loss, Rahul resolved to come back this season by learning from his mistakes. He also praised left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan, who is among the best performers in the tournament among the uncapped players.

“It’s a new franchise. We’ve made a lot of mistakes, but you have to learn from them and come back stronger. We are a young team. The under 25 age group has done well in the patch. Mohsin Khan has done it all. Showed how good he is and what skills he has.

“It is his first season and it is important to take the confidence from it and go home and work hard. He will have more pace and perform better next year,” said Rahul.
