General Manoj Pandey took over as the 29th Chief of the Army Staff on Saturday after General MM Naravane retired from service.

General Pandey, who served as the Deputy Chief, became the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to command the force.

Manoj C Pandey will serve as the Army Chief for more than two years. Service chiefs end their term after three years of service or when they turn 62, whichever is earlier.

Lt Gen Manoj C Pandey’s command appointments include commanding an Engineer Brigade in the Western Theater as part of the Strike Corps and an Infantry Brigade along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Other important command appointments include commanding a mountain division in the high altitude region of western Ladakh and along the LAC and a corps deployed in the counter insurgency operation area of ​​the Eastern Command.

In the rank of lieutenant general, the officer has held important appointments before being appointed as the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command and as the GOC-in-C of the Eastern Command in Kolkata as the Deputy Chief. army personnel.
