Lucid Motors just started production of the Lucid Air Dream Edition EV – but now it has to cling to Tesla even more, so now with the announcement of its ADAS capability is the DreamDrive system that comes with 30 features. There will also be a Dream Drive Pro option that adds a LiDAR and a futuristic highway pilot program that offers hands-free driving capability. Lucid Air was in development for more than a decade and has earned over a billion investments, including investors from Saudi Arabia.

The Lucid Air has 32 sensors including 14 visible-light cameras, five radar units, and four surround-view cameras and ultrasonic sensors throughout the vehicle’s exterior. There is also a version with LiDAR that Tesla has advised but the fact is that cars with level 2 autonomy all have LiDA ₹. In a way, Lucid Motors is saying that the system is not completely self-driving, Rather there is ADAS, but it is also better than what Tesla has to offer.

Lucid Motors has also expanded an Ethernet ring, a high-speed data network that enables a computer gateway in every four corners of the car to communicate at gigabit speeds. It has high performance and therefore also doubles as redundancy for key systems like brakes, steering and overall power.

As a part of the DreamDrive Pro system, users will continue to get additional features through over the air (OTA) updates.

“DreamDrive Pro is designed to grow in efficiencies, thanks to our ability to deliver software over-the-air and key tools already in the vehicle. Thanks to the highly integrated hardware and software teams, new functionality in Lucid Has the potential to be developed for the DreamDrive Pro in-house. This could benefit every aspect of the DreamDrive Pro experience, from the frequency of updates to the planned rollout of the Highway Pilot system for conditional automatic driving on select roadways in the coming years ,” said Dr. Eugene Lee. , Senior Director, Autonomous Driving at ADAS and Lucid Motors.

In the US, this may be the first consumer-grade application of LiDAR on a mass-produced car. Sure, Waymo and Cruise have self-driving cars in America, but they’re not owned by consumers.

It will also support Lucid’s surround-view monitoring with a 360-degree view being provided to LiDAR drivers. It will be offered in either the Air Dream Edition trim or the Grand Touring trim.

The DreamDrive will assist the driver in high-speed and traffic-intensive situations, for example, on the highway the Lucid Air will combine Adaptive Cruise Control with Highway Assist lane-centering to keep the Lucid Air at a safe distance from the car ahead. The Traffic Jam Assistant will operate the car at a speed of 64 kilometers per hour and the Lane Assist will continue to enter the vehicle when lines are blocked or covered by traffic lights. Lucid has also hinted that Highway Assist will probably also offer a hands-free driving experience in the future that isn’t even offered by Tesla Autopilot.

There is also an auto-park facility for parallel and vertical parking spots and it will bring the car to you and exit the spot. If it parks itself on a hill it will turn the front wheels towards or away from a curb. The DreamDrive will go live this month as Lucid Air delivers begin.
