Lucky draw competition in Prakasam boosts Disha app downloads

Prakasam district superintendent of police Malika Garg on Friday said that the recently launched Disha app lucky draw competition is yielding positive results as downloads have increased in the last three weeks.

“Since February 1 when we launched the initiative, we have seen around 36,000 downloads in Prakasam district. This competition has become very popular in the district,” he said, satisfied with the response of the women.

Earlier the backward district was at 10th position and now it has reached 7th position in the number of downloads. Downloads were 13,945 during the first week, 14,712 in the second week and 9,132 in the third week, taking the district’s downloads to over 2.64 lakh.

“Every day we announce 3 winners. Every week we hold a conference with these 21 winners. Winners are expressing their views on various issues in a free and frank manner with us. Also, in a week at most Women police personnel who get more downloads are also being honoured.

The app is a big weapon in the hands of women at risk. The SP said that the awareness programs being run on the app across the district are yielding positive results.

When in danger, women can either press the SOS button on the app, or shake the phone three times to send an SOS request,

The SOS request sends the user’s location to the Disha Command Control Room along with ten seconds of audio and video recording. The control room calls the user, and in the event of no response, or a response confirming that they are in danger, the SOS request is forwarded to the nearest emergency response vehicle and a group of police personnel in no time. will be on the spot.
