Madhya Pradesh city withdraws country liquor exemption for second covid jab offer

Authorities in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district on Wednesday withdrew an order granting 10 per cent discount on country liquor to people who took the second COVID-19 vaccine jab, following criticism from a local legislator.

On Tuesday, District Excise Officer Anil Sachan had issued an order saying that three liquor shops in Mandsaur city will give 10 percent discount on country liquor to people who complete vaccination on Wednesday.

Sachan clarified on Wednesday morning that the instructions in this regard have been withdrawn. He said that the purpose of this order is to help in the vaccination work in the area.

The order was criticized by BJP MLA from Mandsaur Yashpal Singh Sisodia, who said it was not proper. Sisodia, in a tweet, had said that this was not a decision taken by the state government, and that it would encourage people to consume alcohol.

It was said in the order that 10 percent discount will be given on the purchase of country liquor at three shops of Sitamau Phatak, Bhuniakhedi and Old Bus Stand.

The Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday organized a mega campaign to cover more population as part of its coronavirus vaccination programme.
