Madurai: Madrasi High Court On Tuesday, the death sentence for a rowdy was commuted to life imprisonment, M King aka ‘Kattai’ Raja, who killed a man in 2013 over a financial dispute in Thanjavur district. The court also confirmed the conviction and life sentence of two persons in the case.
On 12 April, the Additional Sessions Court in Kumbakonam convicted Raja and sentenced him to death. The court sentenced Arumugam and Selvam to life imprisonment, while the other two accused – Mariyappan and Manoharani – Died during the trial.
Since the lower court had sentenced Raja to death, the matter was referred to the High Court. madurai Bench for confirmation of sentence. A division bench said the matter would not come up in the rarest of rare cases and commuted the death sentence to life imprisonment.
