Maharashtra city allows reopening of colleges for classroom teaching from Monday

Maharashtra: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has allowed colleges to reopen for offline classes from Monday. However, only those people will be allowed who will be vaccinated with both the doses of the COVID vaccine.

In an order, the civic body on Friday said that apart from students, it is mandatory for all teaching and non-teaching staff of these institutions to take both doses of the vaccine.

“Covid-appropriate behavior, physical distancing, use of masks will be followed in colleges,” the order said. Restaurants, bars, food courts etc. are allowed to operate with 50% seating capacity till 11 pm daily, while government and private offices can have 100% attendance, provided the employees are fully vaccinated.

The PMC also said that coaching classes, training institutes were allowed to function with 50% seating capacity.

Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar reviewed the COVID situation in Pune and told media persons that the district’s positivity rate was around 3%.

“Last week the positivity rate of Pune city was 2.5%, while the positivity rate of PCMC and Pune Rural was 2.3 and 3.5% respectively,” Pawar said. He also said that he will talk to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday about bridging the time gap between the two Covid-19 jobs.
