Maharashtra government and Mahindra Seero sign MoU to set up multiple scrapping centers

Mahindra Cero and the Government of Maharashtra have partnered to set up several scrapping units across the state. The proposed centers will have the capacity to recycle two wheelers and three wheelers, passenger and commercial vehicles.

Maharashtra government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahindra Cero, a joint venture between Mahindra Accelo and MSTC (Metal Scrap Trade Corporation) to set up vehicle scrapping centers in the state. Under the MoU signed through Industries, Energy and Labor Department, both the parties will set up several scrapping units across Maharashtra. The proposed scrappage centers will have the capacity to recycle two-wheeler and three-wheeler, passenger and commercial vehicles. The MoU was signed in the presence of Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Mahindra It says that the scrappage centers will be built as per all the legal and environmental norms laid down by CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) and guidelines provided by MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways). Currently, Cero already has a state-of-the-art recycling facility in Pune, Maharashtra, and is now looking at setting up four additional facilities in Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Nashik. The Industries, Energy and Labor Department will facilitate necessary approvals as per the rules and regulations of the state government and the draft vehicle scrappage policy issued by MoRTH for setting up of new vehicle scrapping centres.

The necessary approvals will be provided by the Industries, Energy and Labor Department for the establishment of new vehicle scraping centers.

Speaking on the MoU, Sumit Issar, Managing Director, Mahindra Excello said, “We are delighted to sign an MoU with the Government of Maharashtra and would like to acknowledge the proactive efforts being made by the Government. Sero aims to have a network of the world. -Class facilities in Maharashtra and India. Our centers will provide a platform for customers to scrap their vehicles in an eco-friendly manner and get benefits on purchase of new vehicles that will be linked to the Certificate of Deposit – which With a view to sustainability, through recycling of used vehicles, we aim to reduce India’s dependence on steel scrap imports and conserve the natural resources that go into the production of steel.”

Recently Tata Motors also announced to partner with Maharashtra Government to set up Registered Vehicle Scraping Facility (RVSF) in the state. Tata’s proposed scrappage center will have a recycling capacity of up to 35,000 vehicles a year for end-of-life passenger and commercial vehicles.
