Sources said that according to rough estimates, sales of 70 lakh liters per year in the state are expected to go up to 10 million liters and further increase after the announcement of the liberalized policy.
Excise Department sources said that bars Sealed liquor bottles will be allowed to be sold and the 200-metre distance criterion for wine bars will be done away with.
Sources said bars can offer liquor to producers or cans for consumption on the lines of beer as per the proposed policy.
Officials told TOI that the new policy could be announced within a few days. It is noteworthy that the state excise duty has recently taken a major decision to reduce the duty on imported liquor like whiskey to 150% from the earlier 300%.
