Maharashtra: Public holiday declared in Andheri East assembly constituency on the day of by-election

The Maharashtra government on Saturday declared a public holiday on the day of November 3 by-elections to the Andheri East assembly constituency, an official said. In an official release, the District Election Officer said that the holiday would be applicable to central and state government offices, semi-government offices, public enterprises, banks and others.

The leave would also be applicable to those voters who work outside the limits of the assembly constituency, the release said. Urging citizens to vote in large numbers, Mumbai Suburban District Collector and District Election Officer Nidhi Choudhary said, “Mass awareness is being created to increase the voting percentage in this bypoll.”

This will be the first bypoll in the state after the fall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in June.
