Maharashtra sweet shop sells ‘Golden Modak’ during Ganesh Chaturthi; estimate price

In Maharashtra, the Ganesh Chaturthi festival is all about grand and grand. Life-sized Ganesh idols, colorful pandals and much more – this 10-day long festival is marked with a lot of fun and excitement. And what adds to the celebration is the most popular being the ‘Bhog’ – Modak prepared for Lord Ganesha. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that modak is synonymous with Ganesh worship. During this time of the year, devotees prepare different types of modaks to offer to their beloved deity. Some people also like to experiment with classic modak recipes to make unique sweet offerings to Lord Ganesha. This year, a sweet shop in Maharashtra added to the festivities with all things sweet.

Sagar Sweets in Nashik specially prepared ‘Golden Modak’ for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Yes, you heard us! This particular type of modak was prepared using gold lep (edible gold leaf). And guess the price? The price of golden modak was 12000 per kg. He is not everything. The shop reportedly also had silver modaks, which were prepared with edible silver coating.

Speaking to ANI, Deepak Choudhary of Sagar Sweets said, “We have got a good response. We have also prepared 25 other types of modaks. We sold well.”

Earlier, Balapur Ganesh – Hyderabad’s popular 21 kg laddu – was auctioned for a staggering amount of Rs. 18.90 lakhs. We also saw that a baker from Ludhiana made a 200 kg idol of Lord Ganesha out of Belgian chocolate.
