Maharashtra: Zero Covid cases in many districts now a reality Pune News – Times of India

PUNE: Several districts are reporting zero Covid cases intermittently for the past several days and may soon become infection free, at least for a while, state surveillance officer Dr Pradeep Awate told TOI on Thursday.
The major districts where no new cases have been reported in a few days are Dhule, Jalna, Latur, Hingoli, Gondia and Jalgaon. Dr Awate said the end of the third wave is likely to see a longer list of zero-caseload districts than the last weeks of the second wave because of active cases. Maharashtra These are currently the lowest since the start of Kovid two years ago. The state is also reporting less than 500 new cases every day – a sharp drop compared to all previous waves.
Dr Awte said, “Just as no Covid death was reported in Maharashtra on Wednesday, for the first time since April 2020, it is possible that some districts may report zero cases for a few days because of the daily positivity rate of the state. 1% or less. Recently.”
However, he said that it is unlikely that these districts will remain infection free for long as inter-district movement may lead to sporadic cases. Last year, districts like Nandurbar, Bhandara and Wardha saw zero active cases for several days.
Districts that have touched single-digit caseloads have also reported a drop in testing, but officials said this is only due to a reduction in the disease burden.
Jalna District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Vivek Khatgaonkar said, “Cases are falling in both, when we had an average of 2,000 daily tests and when we had around 500 to 1,000 daily tests. When the disease burden is low, So there is an automatic decline. Fewer people get sick and get tested in testing. Despite hundreds of tests in the past few days, Jalna currently has four active cases.” Dhule DHO Dr Santosh Navale said the area is still conducting 800 to 900 tests. “The drop in cases is not because of less testing. The disease burden has come down significantly because in the last eight days, we have started reporting daily cases in the range of just 0 to two,” he said.
