Maharashtra’s active numbers fall as recoveries cross new cases

After witnessing a single case spike in the past few days, Maharashtra on Monday again rallied as recovery cases were reported against 2,740 new COVID-19 infections in the state with 3,233 patients discharged.

The number of active cases has come down to 49,880. However, the decline has to be seen in the context of a fall in the sample testing rate, with over one lakh samples being tested in the last 24 hours against the daily average of two lakh.

The cumulative fatalities rose to 1,38,169 due to 27 deaths. The case fatality rate remains stable at 2.12%.

The total cases now stand at 65,00,617, while the state’s cumulative recoveries has risen to 63,09,021, with a recovery rate of 97.05%.

State Surveillance Officer Dr. Dr. said, “Out of the total 5,60,88,114 laboratory samples tested so far, 6500,617 (with an 11.59% drop in average case positivity) are positive. have returned and 1.08 lakh samples have been tested in the last 24 hours,” Pradeep Awate said.

Pune reported 549 new cases, taking the total number of cases to 11,26,799, while seven deaths took the toll to 18,806. According to district officials, the active cases have crossed 8,200.

Mumbai reported 345 new cases, taking its total to 7,35,400, while the active number came down to 5,033. The death toll in the city rose to 16,028 with six deaths.

Ahmednagar reported 600 new cases and two deaths, taking its total cases to 3,19,687, of which 6,625 are active. The death toll in the district rose to 6,672.

Satara added 177 new cases and 10 deaths, taking the total number of cases to 2,44,158, of which 4,919 are active, while the death toll rose to 6,156.

Neighboring Sangli reported 191 new cases and two deaths. The total number with active cases stands at 2,05,547, rising to 1,826, while its death toll stands at 5,533.

Kolhapur saw the lowest increase in months, reporting only 28 new cases and no deaths, taking its total number of cases to 2,05,538. Active cases stand at 1,246 while the death toll stands at 5,822.
