The recently launched Mahindra XUV700 SUV has created many new national records in the 24 Hour Speed ​​Endurance Challenge. The challenge, held at Mahindra SUV Proving Track (MSPT) near Chennai, saw four XUV700s breaking records, each covering a distance of over 4000 kms in 24 hours, with an average speed range of 170-180 kmph. The previous record was set in 2016 when the Tata Bolt covered a distance of 3161 km at an average speed of 131.7 kmph. The XUV700 is also the first SUV to achieve this endurance record.

as mentioned earlier, Mahindra The challenge came with four SUVs – XUV700 Petrol Manual, XUV700 Petrol Automatic, XUV700 Diesel Manual and XUV700 Diesel Automatic. The diesel manual version had the highest record of reaching 4384.73 km, followed by the diesel automatic version, which covered 4256.12 km. The petrol manual and petrol automatic models achieved a range of 4232.01 km and 4155.65 km respectively.

Speaking about the new achievement, Velusamy R, Head, Global Product Development, Mahindra & Mahindra said, “The XUV700 was conceptualized, developed and built to a very high endurance standard and has been as expected in this tough challenge. It was performing extremely well. We are proud that the XUV700 has set new benchmarks for endurance and set new national records. It is interesting to note that this achievement has come at our own world-class MSPT.”

Mahindra says that apart from achieving the national endurance record, the new Mahindra XUV700 also took the challenge and broke a total of 80 different records. The four XUV700s were driven for 24 hours at an average speed of 170–180 kmph, with only fuel refills and quick stopovers for driver changes. Mahindra claims that this was the toughest test the XUV700 has ever tested. The XUV700s were driven by enthusiasts from the automotive fraternity under the strict regulations and observation of Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India. Records were validated by India Book of Records.

Mahindra XUV700 comes in both petrol and diesel engine options. The former gets a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine that makes 197 bhp and 380 Nm torque, while a 6-speed manual or an optional 6-speed automatic is mated to a torque converter unit. The diesel variant gets a 2.2-litre, mHawk oil burner which is offered in 3 states of tune. In the base MX variant, it has been tuned to generate 153 bhp and 360 Nm and gets a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. In the AX variant, it delivers 182 bhp, and while the 6-speed manual variant develops 420 Nm of peak torque, the 6-speed automatic with the torque converter makes 450 Nm.
