New Delhi [India]Dec 05 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with thunderous applause when he arrived at the BJP headquarters in Delhi on Monday afternoon to address the meeting of national office bearers.

BJP national president JP Nadda lauded the efforts made by the Narendra Modi-led government in ensuring India’s chairmanship of the G20 for a full period of one year.

Addressing his party colleagues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted what the G20 chairmanship means for a country like India. He also directed the party workers to focus on making the occasion glorious. “Make every Indian feel proud of this achievement and make them a part of this historic occasion,” sources quoted Prime Minister Modi as saying.

Sources further said that on the instructions of the Prime Minister, the party may consider organizing various events and programs with a focus on public participation to showcase India’s might, both culturally and traditionally.

The first G20 Sherpa meeting under the chairmanship of India began in Rajasthan’s Udaipur on Sunday. This was the first of 200 meetings that will be held in 55 cities across India over the next one year.

A meeting has been called by the government at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday evening to brief the presidents of all political parties about India’s G20 chairmanship. Top political leaders and party presidents including Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, DMK chief MK Stalin and Biju Janata Dal’s Naveen Patnaik will be present in the meeting.

India formally took over the chairmanship of the G20 from Indonesia on 1 December.

The G20 or Group of 20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies.

Last month, Indonesia handed over the G20 chairmanship to India for the coming year in the presence of PM Modi at the Bali summit. (ANI)
