Mamta Banerjee may meet PM Modi today

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata BanerjeePeople who came on a four-day visit to the national capital are likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. Issues related to the development of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the state are likely to come up during the discussion.

The BSF, which was empowered to operate up to fifteen km only in the states of Punjab, West Bengal and Assam, is now empowered to extend its jurisdiction to 50 km without any hindrance or permission from the central or state governments. The West Bengal CM had opposed the move.

Leaving Kolkata on Monday, Banerjee said, “It’s time for my meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi the day after tomorrow to discuss the BSF and other developmental issues in Bengal.”

He said that law and order is a state subject and West Bengal’s border with Bangladesh is completely peaceful.

Banerjee had visited Delhi in July this year. This was his first visit after the Trinamool Congress returned to power in the Bengal assembly elections. She also met PM Modi during her last visit.

This time, Mamata Banerjee will be in the national capital till November 25. The yatra is taking place a few days before the winter session of Parliament, which is scheduled to begin on November 29.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, former JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Pavan Varma and Congress leaders Kirti Azad and Ashok Tanwar joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
