Mamta will not attend the meeting of state home ministers called by the Center

An official told PTI that Mamata had dropped the invitation citing work in the middle of the festive season (PTI file).

Government sources said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had last month sent an invitation to Banerjee to attend the meeting.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also in-charge of the home department, will not attend the two-day meeting called by the Center at Surajkund in Haryana, a senior official said. He said the state government would not send Home Secretary BP Gopalika or Director General of Police (DGP) Manoj Malviya, but would appoint Additional Director General (Home Guard) Neeraj Kumar Singh to attend the ‘chintan camp’ from Thursday.

West Bengal Resident Commissioner Ram Das Meena will also attend the meeting in New Delhi. “It is festival time and many celebrations are in line. Bhai Phota (Bhai Dooj) will take place on Thursday and ‘Chhath Puja’ will happen soon. It will not be possible for the Chief Minister to leave the state. Our Home Secretary and DGP will not attend the Chintan Shivir for the same reason the Chief Minister did.

Sources in the government said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had last month sent an invitation to Banerjee to attend the meeting.
