People can go to great lengths to protect themselves. Sometimes their efforts do more harm. Something similar happened with a man in the US state of Maryland. The man tried to douse the snake attack in his house, but burnt the property spread over 10,000 square feet.
According to CNNSnakes have been a recurring issue for this owner and previous tenant as well. Therefore, the man decided to use coal as a heat source to generate enough smoke to drive out the snakes. But he accidentally put the coal too close to flammable materials, which eventually led to a house fire.
Multiple photos of the burned home were shared on social media by Pete Piringer, chief spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. The photographs showed the fire dangerously engulfing property and also what was left after the fire was doused. Thankfully no one was reported to be injured. But the position of the snakes also remained uncertain.
Update ICYMI – Big Woods Road, house fire 11/23; The reason, incidental, homeowners use smoke to manage snake infestations is that the heat source (coal) is too close to the combustible; area of origin, basement, walls/floors; loss, >$1M; no human injury; position of snakes uncertain https://t.co/65OVYAazj4Gpic.twitter.com/xSFYi4ElmT

Whereas this has caused a lot of trouble to the homeowner. Many people shared interesting and funny things and wondered why the homeowner hadn’t tried other, safer options.
One user said, ‘Any idea how old that house was? Ours is older and I usually have to catch and release snakes every year. I’m not sure I would have ever tried to smoke them.”

However, one user jokingly said that if he too had been infested with snakes, how would he have burnt down his house.
If I had a snake infestation, my house would have accidentally burnt to ashes!

“I am there with you. If the snakes survived. Just give them the deed,” wrote another.

The fire started in the basement and quickly spread to the multi-storeyed house but luckily no one was there when the incident happened. ABC News reported that the cost of damages would exceed $1 million (Rs 7.52 crore). The house was recently purchased for $1.8 million (Rs 13.55 crore).
