Man Catches Record-Breaking 7-Foot Shark: “The Most Mind-Blowing Capture”

The shark was about seven feet in length and had a girth of six feet.

A fisherman celebrates after catching a record-breaking seven-foot shark off the coast of Devon, UK. According to daily mail, the shark was about seven feet in length and had a girth of six feet, making it the largest ever caught in British waters.

Simon Davidson said he wrestled with the porbeagle shark for an hour before being able to reel it. The big game fisherman from Northamptonshire said his body was “battered” after the exam, but described it as “the most mind-blowing possession of his life” in a Facebook post.

“I managed to catch a 550lb porbeagle shark. It totally blew me away, my body was battered, but I’m happy,” Davidson wrote on Facebook.

Mr Davidson and six other fishermen worked for more than an hour to trap the ‘monster’ shark in their boat.

Speaking about his record-breaking catch, the fisherman said: “My bait was taken and I didn’t think it was a big fish because it hadn’t started fighting yet.

“Then I rolled it into the side of the boat and it was a real monster.

“Suddenly it took off through the water and pulled about 600 meters of my line and it was a brutal fight to pull it back.

“It was an hour of agony. You get to the point where your legs and arms are trembling and you feel like your body is about to give up.”

Mr Davidson said it was “horrifying” to think that sharks were roaming such large waters.

The shark’s weight is estimated to be around 550 pounds or 249 kilograms. After measuring it was released back into the water.

According to LaddableThe record for the largest porbeagle shark caught in the UK is held by fisherman Chris Bennett, who caught the 507-pound (230 kg) specimen in 1993. However, in order to be considered an official record by the British Fisheries Committee, the fish must be weighed on land – which means it has to be killed. Since most fishermen are not prepared to kill sharks, they measure their catch before releasing it back into the water.
