Man posing as top PMO official in J&K gets Z-plus security; arrested on suspicion

Srinagar: A man from Gujarat posing as Additional Director (Strategy and Operations) in the Prime Minister’s Office, New Delhi was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on March 3. Kiran Patel, a resident of Gujarat, was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. At the 5-star hotel in Srinagar where he was staying as a top official. According to court documents, he was on his third trip to the Kashmir Valley and was later caught by alert security officers. Sources said that “the police got suspicious about him and started collecting information about the accused posing as Additional Director ‘Strategy and Operations’ in the PMO’s office in Delhi.

Sources said the swindler had forged documents to dupe people in the security who had provided him high security cover during his stay in the valley, the swindler was given a thick security cover and accompanied him to the famous tourist spot Dudpahari Where was a top official of the state. Received and supported him.

Following specific information about a person identified as Kiran Patel, son of Jagdish Patel, the police department swiftly acted and arrested the person in Srinagar.

Police has registered an FIR against the accused and arrested him. Sources said preliminary probe suggests that he has managed to dupe gullible people for monetary and other benefits.

Accordingly, an FIR No. 19 of 2023 was registered by Srinagar Police at Nishat Police Station, which read, “On 02-03-2023 a reliable information received by Police Station Nishat revealed that one fraudster Kiran Patel resident of Gujarat Is. He was involved in activities based on criminal intent within the jurisdiction of this Police Station and other parts of Kashmir Valley and by employing means of high level forgery.

“The said person has cheated the gullible public by cheating, forgery and will carry out the activities solely in pursuance of a well thought out plan to obtain monetary and material gain.”

As per the FIR, a case under sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 IPC has been registered against the fraudster at Nishat police station and further investigation is underway.

Sources said Kiran Patel, who introduced herself as a senior Indian government official, also met at least two deputy commissioners during her visit to the Valley. A local court in Srinagar has sent Kiran Patel to judicial custody today.
