Man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing wife

The Third Additional District and Sessions Court in Kalaburagi on Tuesday sentenced Sharanappa Bhajantri, a resident of Aurad (B) village in Kalaburagi district, to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, on the suspicion that she had extramarital affairs.

According to details provided by Public Prosecutor Gurulingappa Srimanta Teli, Bhajantri and victim Sharanamma fell in love and got married in 2016. However, after a few years of marriage, Bhanjantri began to suspect his wife of having an extramarital affair. Relationship.

“On January 2, 2020, Bhajantri, as usual, had gone to a distant field to graze cattle. His wife called him and asked him for some money and she asked him to come to the field and collect it. When she appeared, he killed her by dropping a heavy stone block on her head. A case was registered at Kalaburagi Rural Police Station. There were two eyewitnesses who had seen the couple in the field before the murder,” Mr. Teli said.

Circle Police Inspector Somalinga Kiredalli investigated the matter and filed a charge sheet against Bhajantri.

Third Additional District and Sessions Judge Chandrashekhar Karoshi, who heard both the sides, on Monday found Bhajantri guilty of killing his wife. He delivered the verdict on Tuesday.

Apart from awarding life imprisonment, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the accused. The judge ordered that Rs 15,000 of the fine amount be paid to the complainant, the victim’s mother.

The judge also asked the complainant to approach the District Legal Services Authority for more compensation for the upbringing of the victim’s two minor daughters.
