Man stabbed to death in Delhi’s Seemapuri, two arrested

A 24-year-old man was lynched by three men in Shahdara’s Seemapuri area, police said on Thursday, adding that they have arrested two accused.

DCP (Shahdara) R Sathiyasundaram said the victim has been identified as Shahrukh, a resident of Old Seemapuri and a bad character of the area. The accused have been identified as Zubair, Zafar and Aditya, residents of Seemapuri.

Police said a PCR call was received at around 5 pm on Wednesday informing that a man had been stabbed by three men. Police reached the spot and found that the victim had already been shifted to Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where he was declared “brought dead”.

Investigation revealed that Shahrukh was in a relationship with the married sister of one of the accused. Unhappy with the relationship, the woman’s brother conspired to kill Shahrukh.

The viral video clip of the incident shows one of the accused repeatedly hitting the victim with a metal chair while another stabs him. When a woman tries to save the victim, the third accused stops her.

During the investigation, several teams conducted several raids in the area, following which 18-year-old Aditya and 30-year-old Zubair were arrested, Mr. Sathyasundaram said, adding that the teams are looking for Zafar.

A case was registered at Seemapuri police station under sections 302 (murder), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Arms Act.

Police said Shahrukh was involved in over 40 cases, most of which were pickpockets at metro stations. He had come out on bail a few days ago from Dasna Jail in UP.
