New Delhi Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday met representatives of pharma companies and reviewed the status and adequacy of Covid-19 drugs and production capabilities to effectively handle any situation in the country amid spike in cases in some countries. .
Mandaviya, who met the representatives of the companies virtually, said, “India’s pharmaceutical industry is strong, resilient and responsive. Due to their strength, we were not only able to meet our down demand during the pandemic, but were also in a position to supply medicines to 150 countries. This was achieved without any degradation in the quality and there was no increase in the cost of the medicines”
Pharma companies were asked to keep a close watch on the global supply chain scenario. They were also asked to closely monitor the production and availability of APIs as well as the manufacturing of drugs required for COVID management. They were asked to ensure adequate stock and availability of all medicines, including COVID medicines, in the supply chain right up to the retail level.
Pharma companies appreciated the timely review meeting chaired by the Minister and assured their continued support. He expressed confidence that he would be able to manage the supply chain of Covid medicines.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said that passengers arriving in India from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand will have to undergo mandatory RT-PCR test before departure and upload the report on the Air Suvidha portal from January 1, 2023 .
