Here Are 5 Different Ways To Cut A Mango:

1. Mango Cup And Spoon

If you like eating mango with a spoon, this can be your favourite mango-cutting style. It is also one of the simplest, no-fuss techniques, perfect for those with amateur knife skills. All you need to do is slice the mango into three portions — two fleshy semicircles and the pit. Wash the mango skin properly as we won’t be removing it. Now slice off the two semicircles vertically from both sides of the pit. You can scoop out small portions from the mango halves using a spoon and enjoy! Don’t forget to eat the sweet and sour mango flesh around the pit.

2. Mango Slices

This is one of the most common methods of slicing mangoes in Indian households. Begin by washing the mango skin properly. You can keep the skin on for the mango slices or remove it if the peel makes the fruit bitter. Start by cutting off the three halves same as that for the ‘mango cup and spoon’ technique. Now,  take one of the mango halves in your palm and cut it into 2-3 slices lengthwise. Repeat the same for the other half. If there is a lot of pulp around the pit, you can also cut that off into thin mango slices. Enjoy!

3. Mango Cubes

If you do not like the mango peel and enjoy eating mango in the form of juicy cubes, this slicing technique is for you. Begin by washing the mango. Use a knife or peeler to remove the entire skin. Now, hold the mango in your palm and make vertical and horizontal cuts on one side to get a hedgehog-like shape, with lots of cubes. Now run the knife close to the pit so that the cubes get detached from the mango. Repeat the same for the other side and you will have many mango cubes to eat.

You might have seen this gorgeous mango hedgehog style in mango product advertisements. The process is similar to that of cutting it into cubes, but instead of making the hedgehog pattern on the pit, we will do it in the fleshy half with the peel. First, cut the mango into three parts by slicing it vertically. Now, take one of the halves with the flesh and skin and make vertical and horizontal lines with a knife to get that hedgehog-like look. Pop it out by pushing the skin under so that the cubes pop out, giving you a fun-looking mango hedgehog.

5. Mango Julienne

The final chopping technique on our list requires some good enough knife skills or amateurs may end up with a mushy mango mess. To get mango julienne, choose a mango which is not too soft and juicy, as it may not be able to retain structure when chopped too thin. For the chopping process, peel off the skin and then cut the mango into three portions by slicing it off vertically along the pit. Take a fleshy semicircle part and start slicing it as thin as possible. Now, stack these thin slices on top of one another and cut the mango into thin juliennes. You can eat these directly or add them to salads or desserts.
