Manik Saha says he is BJP’s 2023 Tripura CM candidate

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has said that he will be the face of the BJP in next year’s assembly elections in the state.

Dr. Saha is contesting the assembly by-election from Town Bardowali constituency on June 23. He insisted that he would continue as the chief minister and appealed to the people not to fall prey to rumors of him being replaced.

Addressing a rally on Sunday night, Dr. Saha said that the whole country is keeping an eye on the assembly by-elections. “Don’t believe the rumours. I have been made the Chief Minister and this is not a temporary arrangement. Dr. Saha, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Tripura in April this year, resigned on May 15, a day after his predecessor Biplab Kumar Deb resigned. Was sworn in as Chief Minister.

Party sources said that he was made a candidate from Town Bardowali constituency as per his wish. However, he is facing a tough competition from Congress’s Ashish Kumar Saha, who has won from his home constituency in the last five assembly elections and has never seen defeat in electoral politics.

Since entering politics less than a decade ago, the chief minister has been campaigning in the semi-urban constituency every day and getting acquainted with voters in his first election.

Prominent party leaders and some ministers are working hard to ensure that he emerges victorious.

According to political analysts, Dr. Saha is facing a certain level of anti-incumbency in the Congress stronghold, but his stature as chief minister and the BJP’s additional focus on the constituency will ensure his victory.

Dr. Saha has also promised development and welfare initiatives of the assembly constituency.
