Manipur elections 2022: Voting begins for second phase, 92 candidates in fray

people of Manipur The fate of 92 candidates, including two women, will be sealed during the voting in the state for the second and last phase of the assembly elections. 22 Constituencies namely Lilong, Thoubal, Wangkhem, Hirok, Wangjing Tentha, Khangabo, Wabgai, Kaqing, Hianglam, Suganu, Jiribam, Chandel (ST), Tenganoupal (ST), Phungyar (ST), Ukhrul (ST), Chingai (ST) ), Karong (ST), Mao (ST), Tadubi (ST), Tamei (ST), Tamenglong (ST), and Nungba (ST) will vote tomorrow.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajesh Aggarwal said on Friday that keeping in mind the Kovid-19 epidemic, all preparations have been completed for conducting polling at 1247 polling stations.

A total of about 8.38 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in this phase. The tenure of the present Manipur government began on March 20, 2017 and is scheduled to end on March 19, 2022.

Manipur has a total of sixty assembly constituencies, out of which 38 assembly constituencies went to the polls in the first phase on February 28.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), with the conclusion of the first phase of Manipur Assembly elections on February 28, the state recorded an average voter turnout of 78.30 per cent.

Notably, this time BJP has decided to go it alone and is contesting all the 60 seats alone.

Congress, on the other hand, has formed an alliance of six political parties and named it as Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance (MPSA). Alliance partners in the MPSA include the Congress, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Janata Dal (Secular).
