The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) has condemned the thrashing of two television journalists and a video journalist and snatching a mobile phone during the first and second phases of assembly elections in the state. The police have not yet recovered the mobile phone of the video journalist.

A statement issued by AMWJU said that during the second phase of elections on March 5, TV reporter Josh Sharma and video journalist L.K. from MAMI TV, Imphal. Kanta had gone under Wangkhem to cover voting at Charangpat High School. Assembly Area. Suddenly some youths started beating Mr. Kanta at the polling station. without giving any reason. It said, “He slapped, punched in the face and kicked Kanta. His mobile phone was also snatched. This is despite the fact that he identified himself as a media person. Some candidates from the constituency did the incident. is condemned.

Mr. Kanta has lodged a complaint with the Thoubal district police station. Brojendra Ningomba, editor-in-chief of MAMI TV, has also filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India.

A Tom TV reporter was thrashed and publicly insulted by some people at Ningobam in Nauria Pakhnagalakpa assembly constituency during the first phase of polling on February 28. Later, when AMWJU demanded action, the attackers said it was a case of mistaken identity.

AMWJU has appealed to the authorities to conduct a proper investigation and punish the guilty.
