Miss World Manushi Chhillar says she would have continued to study medicine if her family had not persuaded her to star in the upcoming historical ‘Prithviraj’.

Born in Haryana and raised in New Delhi, Chhillar was pursuing MBBS from BPS Medical College for Women in Sonipat when she was crowned Miss World in 2017 at the age of 20.

After his victory, Chillar said that he had received several film offers, but he turned them all down, until he saw himself as an actor, until Yash Raj Films offered him Akshay Kumar. Directed by “Prithviraj”.

The Chandraprakash Dwivedi-directed depicts the life of the great warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan and Chillar as Princess Sanyogita.

Born to a doctor’s parents, the 25-year-old, who is also a painter and Kuchipudi dancer, said growing up she saw her keen interest in art only as a hobby and not a potential career.

“I never came to Mumbai to become an actor. I did act in school plays, but all my hobbies were always just hobbies, not professional outlets. That was my mindset. When I was with Miss World, I got safe exposure, where I had to be in front of the camera for a few campaigns.

“There were a few opportunities that came my way. I could have debuted long before ‘Prithviraj’, but at that time, I was sure that I didn’t want to be a part of films, so I didn’t even consider them.” ‘ The timing was perfect. Also, it’s not a chance you choose, the film chose me.”

The actor said that when he was offered the film, he could understand that it was the opportunity of a lifetime and that his well-wishers inspired him to consider acting even though he still dreamed of becoming a doctor. Were.

“When such an opportunity comes to you, there is no looking back. Everyone around me including my family and the Miss World team would tell me that I should not insist so much on becoming a doctor. He said, ‘Try it (acting), you’ll love it,’ and I’m glad I did! I think the more I enjoy it, I feel more comfortable on set. ,

Chhillar was initially puzzled by the acting prospects, but over time began to get into the groove, especially as she began to “understand” the nuts and bolts of the craft.

“I love the process of shooting, although I didn’t know how it worked when I started. When we were training, it took me two months to understand the process. Acting is a skill and you You get better with practice.

“When I started understanding it, I could see myself improving and that’s when I started enjoying it. So the transition came naturally, I became more confident about it once I started shooting. What am I doing when I was put in that situation,” he added.

Before facing the camera, Chillar underwent a nine-month-long preparation, where Dwivedi worked as an acting coach with actor Nayani Dixit, who helped him with the Hindi language. His strong academic background came in handy as Chhillar approached the preparation like a student.

“At that point I thought nine months was even less because I was starting from the beginning. I didn’t grow up in workshops, so I prepared a lot… Since I was a student, I had the mindset to take it as a course. I knew what I had to prepare for, what was the deadline and that really helped me.”

‘Prithviraj’ is scheduled to release on June 3 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
