With its streets under three-four feet of water, the Tech Park complex, located on the banks of the Nagawara Lake on the Outer Ring Road, resembled a grid of canals. Videos and pictures of waterlogging went viral on social media platforms.

In the morning, when some administrative and sanitation workers went to the tech park to go for their duty, they were shocked to see water everywhere. “There were no roads; It was like a network of drains. Fortunately, there is no crater inside and we can safely make our way through the water. But the situation was terrible,” said a sanitation worker, who was the first to enter the premises at 6.30 am. In the evening, some roads were filled with three feet of water.
“This is the second time something like this has happened, but it is the first time that when we tried to remove it, the water level is not going down,” he said.

Another security personnel on night duty said, “The water level on the road started rising around 3.30 am. Initially the water was stagnant like the roofs of the houses, but later it kept increasing.
“I called my fellow security guards and we cleaned the drains with sticks to let the water flow. But it kept on flowing back. In a span of two hours, the roads became drains in spate,” he explained.

Manyata, a technical specialist in a private company, Shilpa (name changed) was on her way to her office when she got a call from her friends who were stuck in the premises. He asked her to return. “I live in Hebbal and Recognition For me it is only 3.5 kms. But after reaching the halfway point, my colleagues asked me to go back saying that the campus was flooded,” she told TOI.
However, Shilpa continued to drive and saw the situation first hand. “I only saw streams of dirty water, not roads. I drove inside the park to help some of my friends and got them out safely.

Ram Prasad, Founder friends of the lakes, said, “The park is built on the storm water drain of Hebbal Valley, and it is bound to happen. A planned outlet is needed, and there is no provision for it.”
Encroachment on SWD; We should not blame: bbmp
“About a few years ago, the BBMP had complained of encroachment on the open drain of Manyata Tech Park, diversion of its natural flow and construction of an illegal bridge over it. We should not blame, given that it is an encroachment on stormwater drainage. This will happen every time there is heavy rain,” said a senior BBMP official.
