Meta Platforms Inc said on Wednesday it has increased the security allowance paid to Chief Executive and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and his family by $4 million to $14 million.

“This increased allowance, combined with the cost of Zuckerberg’s existing comprehensive security program, is appropriate and necessary,” Meta said in a filing.

The move comes as the owner of social media platforms Facebook and Instagram has cut thousands of jobs and slashed spending plans for a period that Zuckerberg has called a “year of efficiency”.

The 38-year-old, who is the 16th-richest person on the Forbes billionaires list, earned a compensation of around $27 million in 2021. Meta is yet to reveal his salary package for the last year.

The Financial Times reported last week that Meta had delayed finalizing the budgets of several teams as it prepared for a new round of job cuts.
