Indian market to resume trading today

India’s currency, debt and equity markets remained closed on Wednesday on the occasion of Republic Day. Trading will resume in the market today.

The NSE Nifty 50 index closed 0.75% higher at 17,277.95 on Tuesday, while the S&P BSE Sensex closed 0.64% higher at 57,858.15.

Asia shares mixed

Asian stocks were mixed and Treasuries fell on Thursday as investors evaluated Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s March interest rate volatility signals and the prospect of a hike at each policy meeting.

Equities fluctuated in Japan and slipped in Australia and South Korea, where Samsung Electronics Co missed profit estimates. US contracts edged higher after the Fed’s fall in Wall Street’s rally on Wednesday.

The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield was around 1.85% and the difference between the five- and 30-year yields was the lowest since the start of 2019. Global bonds went into losses, with New Zealand’s 10-year yield the highest since 2018. Dollar reaches one-month high.
