Market Wrap: Sensex gains over 400 points, Nifty settles above 18,800

Domestic benchmark equity indices finished higher on Tuesday led by gains in index heavyweights HDFC twins, State Bank of India and Bharti Airtel. 

The 30-share BSE Sensex ended higher by 446.03 points or 0.71% 63,416.03 level while the Nifty also closed at 18,817.40 level, up 126.20 points or 0.68%.

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 were trading higher in the second half of Tuesday’s session as a result of significant purchasing in companies related to banking, financial services, real estate, and information technology. On the other side, FMCG, Auto and oil & gas stocks traded in the red. The Bakrid market holiday has been moved from Wednesday, June 28 to Thursday, June 29.

Domestic stocks traded marginally higher Tuesday morning apparently due to fresh buying by investors after the recent profit booking. 

Following Wall Street’s tepid decline following its most recent rise, Asian stock markets were mixed on Tuesday. The S&P 500 index, dropped 0.4% on Monday as technology stocks fell after a sharp run-up and most other stocks rose.

The Nikkei 225 in Tokyo fell 0.8% to 32,453.74 while the Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.5% to 3,166.41. The Hong Kong Hang Seng index increased 1.3% to 19,052.70.

Seoul’s Kospi fell 0.2% to 2,575.68 while Sydney’s S&P-ASX 200 rose 0.6% to 7,118.20.
