Tennis legend Martina Navratilova says Poland’s Inga Swietek is a “tremendous favourite” to win the upcoming edition of the French Open. Back in 2020, the now 20-year-old Sweetek became the first Polish player to win a clay-court tournament at Roland Garros.

Furthermore, after winning five consecutive championships since February, the youngster has been in complete disarray of late. The Warsaw-born female prodigy has won the Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open and Italian Open.

The 65-year-old Navratilova, who is also the winner of 18 Grand Slams, praised Svetek, who handled the pressure with great grace.

“You can’t get hotter than that,” Navratilova was quoted as saying by the WTA.

“She looks pretty unbeatable on any surface, especially now clay. So we have a tremendous favorite going to the French, when it was wide open last year. Clearly, the pressure isn’t bothering her.” She’s just embracing it. It’s great to see when you’re the favorite, and you keep winning,” she said.

Australian tennis star Sam Stosur also talked about Swatek’s ability to soak up pressure and raise his game in moments of crisis. Stosur, who won the US Open at Flushing Meadows in 2011, said Sweetek is full of confidence after winning a few consecutive tournaments.

“If you’re winning title after title, you feel incredible, that confidence builds up. No matter what happens, you’re going to walk off that court and think you’re going. Have been winning every single match. And I think (the feeling) is just building and building and building,” Stosur said.
