Maruti Suzuki records highest ever exports in a financial year

With a record 2,38,376 vehicles exported in the financial year (FY) 2021-22, Maruti Suzuki registered its best ever financial year for exports. Exports in the last financial year saw a significant growth of 147.95 per cent as compared to FY 2020-21, where the carmaker had reported export numbers of only 96,139 – the lowest in the last five financial years. Announcement Following a similar announcement made earlier in the year, the carmaker revealed that it had exported a record 2 lakh vehicles in the 2021 calendar year.

Commenting on the milestone, Hisashi Takeuchi, the new MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki, said, “Today is an auspicious day for me as I take on the responsibility of MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki, achieving this historic highest export coincides with. This export milestone demonstrates the dedication and hard work of Maruti Suzuki, the team led by Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, with whom I have played this role. These export numbers reflect India’s manufacturing capability and acceptance of India-made vehicles across the world.”

Maruti also revealed that March 2022 was the best month yet for exports with 26,495 units shipped to markets across the world – eclipsing its previous high of 24,021 units recorded in February 2022. In comparison, the carmaker recorded exports of 11,597 units in March 2021. Baleno, DZire Swift, Vitara Brezza and S-Presso were among the top export models of the carmaker in the financial year.

Maruti Suzuki currently exports the model to over 100 countries in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and the ASEAN region. The company has now exported over 2.2 million units since it first started exporting cars in 1986, the two million milestone achieved in February last year.
