Maruti Suzuki today signed an agreement with the Haryana government to set up its third and largest production facility in the state. The 800-acre new plant will be set up at IMT Kharkhoda in Sonipat district, with Maruti Suzuki saying it plans to invest Rs 18,000 crore in the new plant. The new facility will have an annual production capacity of up to a maximum of 1 million units per annum, making it one of the largest car plants in the country and Maruti’s largest in India, the company said. Also announcing the signing of the agreement was an investment of Rs 1,500 crore by Suzuki Motorcycle India for a 100-acre facility in the same area.

Speaking at the signing, Kenichi Ayukawa, Executive Vice President, Maruti Suzuki, said, “Today, we sign an agreement with the Government of Haryana to allot 800 acres of land to Maruti Suzuki and 100 acres to Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd. Maruti Suzuki. The construction work on the car manufacturing plant will start immediately. With the support of the state government, the first plant with an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles is expected to be commissioned within the year 2025.”

Maruti Suzuki presented a check for ₹2131 crore as payment for the land.

Maruti Suzuki also announced stepping up of its investment in the new plant with an initial investment of Rs 11,000 crore in the first phase of the project. The investment will include the cost of land, setting up of a car manufacturing plant and some infrastructure and facilities for future plants. The plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units when it starts operations in 2025. The company expects to take its total production capacity to 1.8 million units annually to reach full production capacity at its new facility by 2030.
