For decades, many celebrities from all over the world have put their best fashionable foot forward on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Set against the backdrop of the glamorous French Riviera, the prestigious event sees models and movie stars from across the world striving to stand out from the crowd with their looks.

With the rise of social media over the years, there is a new breed of celebrity that is rocking the festivities. They are internet influencers who are no less than stars on the red carpet. These include Masoom Minawala, who has been a pioneer in India As a fashion and lifestyle influencer.

One of the first creators from India to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, Minawala made her third outing this year, where she rocked a head-to-toe Maison Valentino look for her Cannes appearance. Styled by Anita Shroff Adajania, she wore a hot pink mini dress teamed with matching tights and block heels, keeping it chic and experimental.

Minawala, who has 1.48 million followers on Instagram, talks exclusively to News18.com about her Cannes experience, the joy of representing Indian fashion globally and the popularity of influencers at such a prestigious event .

This is your third time in Cannes. How would you describe your association with the gala celebrations?

My association with Cannes has always been very special; My aim has been to represent my country in every possible capacity. It is great to see that over the years, the Indian film industry has expanded so much that it is being celebrated as a country of honor (in the Marché du film). I still remember the first time I walked the red carpet for Cannes, it was like a dream I never dared to dream. That being said, it was equal parts brilliant and awesome. I saw two months of hard work fly by in less than 200 seconds. Now that I have attended the event for the third time in a row, I am more comfortable and aware of the whole process and this time I have managed to bring my team down to assist me in the process.

Anita Shroff Adajania styled you on the red carpet. How does the outfit represent you as a person?

To be honest, I absolutely love to experiment with my personal style standards and Anita has got a timeless charm to her stylist wands. So, the outfit we have created by Yusef Akbar and Swarovski is a blend of the enthusiasm of both of us.

How was your experience this year? Did you get a chance to interact and mingle with the people you look up to?

The Cannes Film Festival is a great place to network with people from the media industry and honestly, it is always a cultural pleasure to meet new people from the producer industry or the cinematic world.

Walking into the Festival de Cannes, the world’s largest cinematic festival and a global fashion event, comes with its fair share of fun and responsibility. How do you balance the two and what does this opportunity mean to you?

It’s not easy to juggle close deadlines and work pressure single-handedly, especially when a fun event like Cannes is a work trip. For two years with my team in India, I was barely maintaining the quality of my work and it was taking a toll on my material. I was finding my way through the red carpet and the responsibilities that came with it. However, this year has been a personal and professional milestone for me. I have invested in taking my team from India to Cannes.

Till a few years back, red carpet appearances were limited to movie stars only, but we see a lot of influencers making their mark. What do you attribute to this change?

I think this change can be linked to a paradigm shift in the need to be more inclusive. Because of the scope of social media, audiences crave people they can relate to immediately, they crave candor and a sense of community more than anything else the global influencer industry is striving to achieve.

With content creators and fashion entrepreneurs now being invited to attend the Cannes Film Festival, how do you think the perception about the digital economy has changed now?

This is certainly a step forward for the economy of the manufacturer. It’s so refreshing to congratulate the A-listers and influencers from around the world who have united to be ambassadors for the brands we represent.

What has been the most memorable moment for you at Cannes?

Certainly a saree on the red carpet has to represent the rich cultural heritage, but with a contemporary twist.

What are the top five beauty trends from the Cannes 2022 red carpet that caught your eye?

I personally love the magic of skincare infused makeup, glass skin, and I also loved how embellishments were used as hair accessories.
