Mass shooting in Washington DC, US, 8 injured in 2 incidents, suspect at large

New Delhi: In yet another incident of mass shooting in the United States, a gunman opened fire in a southeast suburb of Washington DC on Friday night (local time), reported The US Sun. Initial reports said that eight people were shot, including a 12-year-old girl. The DC Police Department said a black sedan, possibly a Mercedes, drove through the neighborhood and opened fire indiscriminately at a group of men, WUSA reported. According to Officer Hugh Carew of the Metropolitan Police Department, the first call about the shooting came in just after 10 p.m. Police initially said seven people were shot on a residential street in the Congress Heights neighborhood. Later the number of victims increased to eight. Seven people were shot on Lebaum Street, Assistant Chief of Patrol Services South Andre Wright told WUSA9.

A 12-year-old girl was shot near the 2900 block of Second Street. His injuries were not life-threatening. The police department is treating the two murders as related. Several shells were found on the ground and police are investigating two crime scenes. A few blocks away, a 12-year-old girl was shot and police believe the two incidents of gunfire are related. The conditions of all the victims were not immediately available but at least one person was seriously injured.

Police said DC Fire and EMS transported four people to the hospital and the other victims were taken to a trauma center. Assistant Chief Andre Wright shot several people in the 500 block of Lebaum St. SE and the 2900 block of Second St. SE.

“To make it easier for everyone to follow the story. There are going to be two scenes involved. One is the 500 block of Lebanon Street Southeast. That will be the primary scene and then the secondary scene. The 2000 block of Second Street Southeast and the information that I’m going to give that’s very preliminary,” Wright said.

He further added that the investigation is ongoing and that multiple victims are involved and that detectives and patrol officers are knocking on the door. Further action will be taken when the information comes to the fore.

He added, “We found that there were several adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. Thankfully, none of them are life threatening, most of them were self transporting when we arrived at the scene.
