Massive fire in North Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar textile market, 30 fire tenders on the spot

New Delhi: According to Delhi Fire Brigade officials, a massive fire broke out in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar Market textile market on Wednesday evening. The fire broke out in a shop in Nehru Lane, which mainly houses clothing and hosiery shops. Atul Garg, director of Delhi Fire Services, said, “A fire was reported at 5:40 pm and 35 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.” Officials said that around 35 fire tenders and 150 firefighters were trying to douse the blaze that started around 5.30 pm.

The operation was hampered by narrow lanes and absence of a water source nearby. He said the fire tenders would have to be parked far away from the spot.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, ‘This incident of fire in the textile market of Gandhinagar is very unfortunate. The fire brigade is busy extinguishing the fire. I am taking full details of the incident from the district administration. May Lord Shri Ram protect everyone. Well.”

Officials said that no casualties have been reported so far.
