An FIR was registered against three identified and four unidentified persons under sections 9, 39, 51 and 52 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Vrindavan Kotwali On a complaint lodged by the forest department officials, the police station officials said that the animal was apparently caught in the noose, which then pressed it tightly after trying to free itself.
Forest Department Section Officer Om Prakash Sharma He said the leopard was found dead in a corner of an agricultural land with its hair scattered and a noose made of clutch wire, with hairs stuck to it, was also found from the spot. “The villagers had planned to bury the leopard, but could not do so as the information spread rapidly,” he said. After preliminary investigation, the carcass of the leopard has been sent to IVRI Bareilly for post-mortem.
According to forest officials, they got information about this and when they reached the field, they found the dead leopard. It is an offense under various sections of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
SP (city) MP Singh told TOI that no arrests have been made so far and investigation is on.
