MCD Elections: All the candidates of BJP, AAP, Congress filed nominations amid huge crowd on the last day

Amid heavy rush, all 750 candidates of the three major parties – AAP, BJP and Congress – filed their nominations for the upcoming civic polls in Delhi on Monday in the national capital, sources said.

November 14 was the last day for filing nominations for the elections to 250 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The tabulation of the data from the nominations filed is still underway, the source said.

“Due to the rush of a day, the nomination process continued till late evening for all the candidates who came till 3 pm, and the process of uploading nomination documents is underway. Till 11 pm, 2,048 nominations of 1,593 candidates have been uploaded and the remaining uploading will be completed soon.

He said that the process of receiving the nominations is going on absolutely smoothly and elaborate arrangements have been made at all the RO Headquarters.

The polling will be held on December 4 and the counting of votes will take place on December 7.

“All 750 candidates of AAP, BJP and Congress filed their nominations today on the last day. Apart from other parties, several independent candidates have also filed their nominations. Election Here the commission said.

All the three parties also confirmed that 250-250 of their candidates have filed papers for all the wards.

According to officials, only 35 nominations were filed till Friday since the process began on November 7.

Of the 28 nominations filed on Friday, 18 are men and 10 are women. A senior official had earlier said that twenty of these were filed by leaders of four political parties, including five independents and eight from the BSP.

Officials pointed out that since no nomination papers were received by the returning officers on November 12-13 due to public holidays, there was a huge rush for filing nominations by candidates on Monday.

The Delhi BJP, said all 250 of its candidates, filed their papers for the election, along with senior party leaders who claimed that the saffron party would emerge victorious for the fourth time in a row.

AAP and Congress also said that each of their 250 candidates have filed papers.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on November 16, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is November 19.

The BJP had announced its second list of 18 candidates in the early hours of Monday and changed the official candidates in nine wards, hours before the nomination process was to end.

Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta, while interacting with party candidates in several wards here, said that the party is going to perform better than the previous MCD elections.

In the municipal elections held in 2017, BJP had won 181 wards out of 270 wards. Voting could not be held in two seats due to the death of the candidates. AAP won 48 wards and Congress 27 wards.

This will be the first civic polls after the new delimitation exercise, and the much-awaited polling will take place in the gap between the two phases of the Gujarat Assembly elections, which will be held on December 1 and 5.
