Bhubaneswar: The Higher Education Department has decided not to use the newly constructed Model Degree College.MDC) Buildings in Gajapati, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal and Kalahandi as centers of education and is considering options for their alternative use, such as hostels or vocational and skill development centres.
In a letter issued on Saturday to the District Collectors of Gajapati and Kandhamal, the Secretary of the Higher Education Department Saswat Mishra Said, “Since some general degree colleges are located nearby, it is not desirable to open another general degree college in the size of this MDC. Hence it has been decided to make alternate use of this MDC building to benefit the local people.
12 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of each MDC building under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA 2.0) scheme. The constructions at Damerikia in Kandhamal and Tammaypeta in Gajapati are expected to be completed this month.
